Thunderbird Sector

Standard civilian astrogation chart, circa 2498

We passed by sullen lead-gray giants
with storms that never ceased.
The emerald glare of poison skies
and storms that never ceased.
Angry cinders against the night
And every one a hell.

-Untitled poem by Wendy Hannah Smith, written after her scouting crew completed their first tour of the sector.

Thunderbird Sector is a Core Systems Free Republic territory, one sector antispinward and one sector rimward from Titan Sector and Earth. The first colony established was Pollock Colony, Levanto System in 2155. The Sectoral Congress is stationed on planet Troyes, Aellai System. The CSFR shares Thunderbird Sector with the Mirandolans.

The sector is notable for its inhospitable nature and sparse number of terrestrial planets. Large portions of Thunderbird Sector are filled with supernova remnants, nebulae, and other hazards that make Jumps through them suicidal. The Lavigne Route runs directly through Thunderbird from Phoenix Sector to Tengu Sector, past the Victoria Falls Nebula. The Scout Service advises travellers to venture no further antispinward than Aellai System or into Meteoras System. Two systems - Bora and Eirene - are charted, but are abandoned, and the area around them has not been officially explored.

Astrogation

By Earth astrogational standards (see Core Systems Scout Service), Thunderbird Sector is 1 sector antispinward and 1 sector rimward from Earth (technically Titan Sector). This gives Thunderbird Sector's relative grid coordinates the dimensions of (-1X1X). Cyclone System, for example, is at relative coordinates -1313.

Coreward: Phoenix Sector
Rimward: Tengu Sector
Spinward: Dragon Sector
Antispinward: *unknown*

Political Status

The Mirandolan nation of posthuman colonists holds five systems in the antispinward part of the sector, which remains a bitter pill for the Core Systems colonies in the sector to swallow. The More Incident is fresh in the minds of the sectors' Republic politicos, who have put as many strictures on Mirandolan access to CS colonies as possible under Republic code - and as a result, some Mirandolans have taken to piracy, sapping water from planet Hamelock in violation of the CS claim on K2 System, stripping Republic satellites and stations for parts, and other such antagonistic measures.
