Sotherlane is almost Earth-sized - 12,200 km in diameter, with a surface gravity of 0.97g, but with a dense atmosphere that is too hot for humans to breathe safely. Surface pressure is 2.10atm. The planet is too close to its star to have any surface water.
Demographics
8.5 million Penitents live inside Sotherlane's domed cities, but the starport hostels routinely host half again that number, as Brotherhood members from all over Dragon Sector congregate to launch off for proselytizing on other worlds. The planet's population is a strange mix of ultra-devout initiates and well-travelled members (carrying views that sometimes shock the others).
Economics
Aside from the immense volume of spacebound traffic, Sotherlane's uninhabited areas are mined for tungsten, uranium, and less-valuable metals. Several Penitent-affiliated corporations conduct research near and by way of the Sotherlane starport, though most of their focus is on getting more missionaries and pilgrims farther, faster.
Politics
Sotherlane proper is ruled by a group of senior members chosen by their former seat-holders (invariably from within their social circle), though they ultimately answer to the Marja Dini of Mardana.
