The Chechen Systems Longbow-class gunship was introduced to the Core Systems Republic Navy in 2463, as part of the Navy's Small Escort Vessel procurement program. It supplements the Burke-class frigate in the escort role and is a more rugged alternative to a Hotspur squadron attack run. The current revision is the Longbow-N model, replacing the ventral-mounted missile bay with a dedicated ship-killer torpedo mount. Navy custom does not officially bestow names upon ships of sub-1000-ton displacement, but crews often christen their ships themselves.

The Longbow-N has not been in service long enough for all craft in the class to be upgraded to the standard; occasionally the pre-torpedo Longbow-K is the model encountered.

SM13 Hadrian-type System Security Vessel
The Hadrian is a largely demilitarized version of the Longbow. The jump engine, high-grade computer and most of the high-yield weaponry have been stripped to bring the cost down, some of which is devoted to cargo space and some of which is put to use for cold-storing criminals, but even without the teeth of its military counterpart a single SM13 is a formidable foe to the average pirate.

Longbow Gunship, Revision O
The Longbow-O is the newest Revision of the Longbow, quickly unveiled and rolled out by Chechen Systems in response to the recall of 300 Longbow Gunships. Despite claims that the thickness of the armor plates were not causing an issue with the Longbow-N, the -O comes with thinner armor, but has replaced that armor with larger turrets and a bay system for launching torpedoes - as well as adding in modern automated repair systems.
