Planetary Data

Geographic Data

Leopold is a Mars-size world, 6,600 km in diameter, with a surface gravity of 0.4g. It has a thin atmosphere that at 0.6atm would normally be breathable, but Leopold's temperature averages almost 80˚ throughout the year. There is no liquid surface water.

Demographics

8 million people reside on Leopold, mostly of Core Systems heritage, though a fair number are members of the Brotherhood. The population was once only miners, prospectors, Scout Service, and independent traders and explorers, but with the system's recent trade boom, millions of workers have migrated here to work in the factories.

Economics

The enormous demand for luxury items among the ruling class (see Politics, below) has created a surplus that they are only too happy to export. Luxury fragrances, phermones, fabrics, and other amenities from Leopold are now being traded across Thunderbird Sector and even into other markets.

Politics

Out here on the frontier of human space, the nobility has been given a free reign. As the last jump before Tengu Sector, Leopold is a necessary stop, and the rulers delight on levying huge fees on all outbound or inbound traffic whenever they can. While the commoners labor to produce synthetic silks and 29kxvuv.gif900 bottles of perfume, the nobility is far removed from them, preferring to spend all their time at leisure. Their distance from the heart of the Republic (and perhaps some influence from the Mirandolans) has created a climate of debauchery that is now the norm among the elite.
