Harbin is a Core Systems-aligned planet in the Amur System of Manticore Sector. A code Amber travel advisory is in effect for the system.

Planetary Data

Geographic Data

Harbin is a watery planet 11,900km in diameter. It has a thick carbon dioxide atmosphere that terraforming has only begun to reverse, so it is suggested that all travellers wear an oxygen tube (replacement oxygen tanks are available widely on the surface). Gravity is 0.9g, while sea level atmospheric pressure is 1.22 atm.

Harbin's main population center is Senmar, a city lying half on land, half on (and in) the sea, on the biggest landmass on the planet. Despite its precarious political situation, Harbin remains a lively vacation and retirement destination, enough to have enticed eight million inhabitants from both the Core Systems and Spartan Brigade sides of the border.

The unique aquatic life on Harbin has led to a booming market in biochemicals, pharmaceuticals and exotic foodstuffs. Halcyon Pharmaceuticals has its research headquarters here.

The political situation on Harbin is tenuous thanks to its proximity to the CS-Spartan border. The primary planetary government retains its Core Systems allegiance and commitment to representative democracy, but Halcyon Pharmaceuticals is a goliath in planetary politics, dealing with anyone with enough credits and with enough money and legal status to get its way 9/10ths of the time. Meanwhile in the lowest parts of undersea Senmar City, power lies in the hands of those who have the knowledge to keep the city depths from flooding.

Travellers' Information

The Core Systems Scout Service has enacted a code Amber travel advisory for Amur System due to its close proximity to Spartan Brigade space. Travellers' safety is not guaranteed in the event of the renewal of hostilities, and military forces in-system will not be dispatched to assist civilian ships under attack.

Travellers' Resources

Senmar City houses a Class-B starport with TAS facilities. The Harbin Planetary Aquatics Institute is the authority on investigating the planet's myriad lifeforms. The Core Systems Department of Foreign Affairs maintains an attache here in lieu of an actual embassy inside Spartan space.
